Assessing Building Performance
We spent an interesting afternoon last week assessing a new home that was built using SIP (Structural Insulated Panels). Usually we will rate a building using thermal modeling software that undertakes predictive analysis of the building performance. In this case it was interesting to undertake actual physical analysis of the building. Two tools that could be introduced into the Australian building compliance framework. The blower door test and thermographic analysis were used. When the building envelope is pressurized, not only do you get to quantify how 'tightly' sealed the building envelope is (how much is leaks energy in and out of the house) but you get to see where the defects actually are and take proactive steps to rectify any issues prior to client handover. Sustainability House loves using this technology to analyse both new and existing buildings and to quantify the results.
By using industry leading best practices, Sustainability House can strategically assist in delivering cost effective solutions to energy efficiency issues, whether you are building a new home or a major commercial project.
